Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Hurlich

From learning music notes to learning the atmosphere
Teacher+Spotlight%3A+Mr.+Hurlich

Mr. Hurlich is a new assistant teacher here at Briar Woods. But this isn’t his first time helping out around the classroom, he has been a substitute teacher as well at Independence High School. Mr. Hurlich got into an internship while at Longwood University where he also took classes for special education and a variety of subject areas.

While at college he was the president of the guitar club, helped volunteer with a fraternity, played ultimate frisbee, and he also played lacrosse – usually playing defense.

Mr. Hurlich has played the guitar for 13 years and he still enjoys it just as much as he did then.  His favorite genre of music to play is classical and pop. Before wanting to be a teacher, he wanted to be a music therapist. He thought music therapy would be a great way to incorporate his guitar and his desire to help. Although he decided to go into the teaching field, he still plays the guitar whenever he can.

When he is not teaching or playing guitar, he also loves to hike and read. His favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

The best part of teaching for him is when you make a difference in kids’ lives and when you see them succeed after a long time of hard work and dedication.
