As graduation approaches, senior members of the Briar Woods choir are looking back on the memories and experiences that shaped their high school years. Many students say choir became more than just a class — it became a place to relax, connect with others, and grow as people.
Senior Alex Newhouse said choir helped make school less stressful throughout high school. “It’s helped me so much,” Newhouse said. “The energy is relaxing, and I’m given breaks during class.” Newhouse also shared that Choir Director Nigel Tangredi made a strong impact on students. “He’s super inspiring and funny and caring,” Newhouse said.
After graduation, Newhouse plans to take online college classes while working toward getting a place of his own. Although he does not plan to continue choir in college, he said he may join a local choir in the future.
Another graduating choir senior, who asked to remain anonymous, said choir created a supportive environment during difficult school years. The student explained that being surrounded by music and classmates helped make Briar Woods feel more welcoming. They also described Tangredi as a teacher who always encouraged students to do their best while keeping the classroom positive and enjoyable.
The anonymous senior plans to attend college in the fall and hopes to stay involved in music through clubs or community performances.
As the school year comes to an end, graduating choir seniors leave behind performances, friendships, and memories that will continue long after their final concert at Briar Woods High School
