Quarter two has finally begun, meaning it’s time for the yearly ritual of saying, “No one talk to me, I’m too stressed!” or “I have too much homework to do!”, whether students like it or not. With colder weather, longer breaks , an increased workload, and motivation is nowhere to be found. Falcons say the slump has definitely started to leave its mark in students’ lives, and it’s becoming more and more obvious each day this season, let’s hear what they have to say.
Falcons report an increase in stress, lack of motivation, and there is so much work to do in such a short amount of time, leading to most students feeling like the world is about to end. To understand how students feel during this period, a member of the cross country team, Priya Patel, explains her perspective on this season, “The work loads have been piling up far more than the first quarter and the tests are never ending. I’m less motivated and my subjects are not exciting,” said Patel.
The workload is way too much to handle for students, and most of them take part in afterschool activities like sports and clubs which can make it difficult for students to do their assignments. From the students’ perspectives, teachers assign way too many assignments at the last minute, making students want to crash out. Cooking club member, Natalia Billingsley explains her concern, “It’s so annoying, teachers like to assign lots of work last minute before break, which is so stressful,” said Billingsley.
By the end of the school day, the sun has already set, making students want to curl up in bed and still have the burden of homework, as if. Most students, if not all, just want to go to bed and avoid the mountain of doom of homework that they have acquired during the duration of the day. The school vibe went from cute, organized, and having motivation to “I need it to be Friday”, as fast as it possibly can.
Everyone tells you about the academic burnout, but no one tells you about ways to ease the pain. The University of Georgia emphasizes to make sure to set a time to participate in activities you enjoy, breaks are crucial for the brain. These breaks allow you to recharge your energy levels, and you will most definitely feel an instant shift in your motivation levels. Having a school-life balance is very important as well, your life should not be consumed by just studying for school, it should have time for just you!
Remember, studying all night long may be successful, but it is not healthy. Prioritize your health over your grades!
