Every day, teachers enter school with the intention of inspiring, motivating, and influencing the future in addition to teaching. From staying late to help with homework to being a shoulder to cry on, teachers do more. We hear from students about the unforgettable impact they have made and what teacher appreciation really means to them.
Both inside and outside of the classroom, Briar Woods High School students acknowledge the lasting effect that teachers have on their lives.
Ninth-grader Devin Minano states, “Teacher Appreciation should be noticed because teachers work hard every day to help students learn and grow,” said Minano.
Lesson plans are only one aspect of what teachers do. At Briar Woods, teachers support their students in every way, academically, emotionally, and personally. From writing recommendations to purchasing supplies with their own money, they always go the extra mile without being asked.
To Semon Fanan, a teacher’s character and passion for their work are equally as important as the lessons they teach. She believes the entire classroom experience is different when teachers show they genuinely care.
“A good teacher is kind and caring and wants to help their students succeed. A good teacher loves and enjoys teaching which makes the classroom more enjoyable, “ said Fanan.
At Briar Woods, teachers take time to build strong relationships with their students. That’s why showing appreciation is crucial, because most of the time they don’t get recognized enough. In fact, the little things such as saying “have a good day” after class, being respectful, or even writing a note expressing gratitude can make a huge difference.
Cate Moore believes acknowledging our educators’ efforts is just as important as their teachings. She believes showing consistent support helps teachers feel seen and valued.
“I feel like teacher appreciation week is important because teachers do so much for us that we really notice all the time,” said Moore.
Most people don’t realize how much teachers do, whether they are helping students reach their goals or simply listening. In schools around the globe, we must ensure our educators feel appreciated every day, not just a single week in May. So here’s to you – the teachers, the educators. Thank you for believing in your students. We see you and we appreciate you.
