The prestigious Met Gala took place on Monday, May 5, 2025 in order to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, located in New York City. The exclusive event features around 450 celebrities in high profile and chic outfits, based on the yearly theme.
This year’s theme was “Tailored For You,” which was “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” according to Vogue. The theme was chosen to honor “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which is the Costume Institute’s Spring 2025 showcase. The fashion reflects the history and culture of Black Dandyism, an expressive fashion style in the African American community dating back to the 18th century.
While celebrity fashion was the highlight of the Gala, celebrities and paparazzi noticed that Rihanna is expecting her third child this year. She is known for her high profile pregnancy announcements, and this year it was revealed by her daring custom designed Marc Jacobs suit-gown showcasing her pregnancy to the public.
The actress and singer Zendaya arrived at her seventh Met Gala this year, once again looking exquisite with her high fashion style. Her outfit was custom made by Louis Vuitton and designed by singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams. She wore a white zoot suit with a white felt hat and Bvlgari jewelry. According to Vogue, “her zoot suit served as an homage to the era of power dressing in the 1970s and 1980s.” While Zendaya is always counted on to bring classy outfits to the table, she isn’t the only one doing so.
The American rapper A$AP Rocky served as a co-chair for the 2025 Met Gala. Rocky made his appearance in a Marmot jacket, a coat that represents modern day dandyism in his eyes. “Marmots are a Harlem tradition– in the winter, everyone has a Marmot on,” Rocky explains to Vogue.
Aurelia Boutte, a freshman at BWHS stated ¨A look that stood out to [her] was Demi Moore’s outfit. When you see her dress at first, it just looks like a simple black and white dress with a big headpiece. But if you pay closer attention to it, you´ll see that the whole dress looks like a striped tie.”
According to an article by Women’s Wear Daily this year’s Met Gala broke a fundraising record, making $31 million dollars, a significant difference from last year´s Gala at $26 million dollars. Tickets to the Gala were $75,000 per person and $350,000 for a table. While those were a large contribution to the money collected, Louis Vuitton was the top sponsor of the night. Stars such as Doechii, Sabrina Carpenter, Pharrell Williams, Lisa (BLACKPINK), Future and many more wore the luxurious brand.
The 2025 Met Gala was flooded with original looks and dandyism fashion. The respected theme and record breaking fundraising will make this Met Gala a night to remember.
