Mr. Brian Kelley is an EL teacher who teaches government, world history one and world history two. While this is his first year teaching at Briar Woods High School, this is his 27th year teaching. He currently teaches 9th grade, 10th grade, and 12th grade. Kelley has originally taught at Sterling Middle School and Moorefield Station Elementary School.
He enjoys Briar so far, mainly for his amazing team of teachers and staff, but mainly his teammate, Mrs. Ramirez. Kelley explains, “I couldn’t ask for a better teammate.”
Kelley also enjoys working with the students, and talks about how he taught some of them in 5th grade online, while he was at Moorefield Station. He found it very nice to see how much they grew up, and who they have become today.
Mr. Kelley loves to spend time with three of his kids. His youngest kid is a junior here at Briar Woods, and his other two are in college; one in the University of Pittsburgh, and one in the University of Miami. He likes to visit his kids sporting events in his free time, and as much as he enjoys sports, he also enjoys spending time with his kids very much. While he doesn’t have much time now because of school, Mr. Kelley likes to watch sports, mainly basketball and soccer. As a teacher, Mr. Kelley also enjoys reading. “But I like sports. I used to play more, now watching more, but sports and I do a lot of reading as well.”
If Mr. Kelley could give some advice to students, it would be to do your best in school, and take advantage of all the amazing opportunities this school has to offer. Schools have so many opportunities to learn, not just academically, but making friends and joining clubs. “To just always do their best, like put all your effort into everything they’re doing right now, and take advantage of all the opportunities that this school has, not just in class, but the clubs. You only have this opportunity once. So go all in and really enjoy high school.”
