You might be thinking to yourself “Shut up!” but the rumors are officially true. Rumors have circled around for the past six months about the probability of a third Princess Diaries movie to add to the series. Ultimately, the princess of Genovia will make her epic return.
It has been 20 years since the latest Princess Diaries was released and fans have started to speculate when they would see their favorite princess return to the screen. Anne Hathaway confirmed on Instagram announcing with her video caption, “Miracles happen” additionally “Back to Genovia . . . The fairy tale continues.”
Rumors have circled back to whether or not a script was in the works since 2019. Anne Hathaway revealed on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen “There is a script. I want to do it, Julie [Andrews] wants to do it, Debra Martin Chase our producer wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.”
Additionally, “we don’t want to do it unless it’s perfect, because we love it just as much as you guys love it,” Hathaway stated. “It’s as important to us as it is to you and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready. But we’re working on it.”
However; in May 2022 Julie Andrews reported that she is not sure if she wants to be involved telling The Hollywood Reporter “It would be too late to do it now . . . There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago. But I don’t think it ever came to pass.” Furthermore she adds, “Especially [for] me, it’s too far down the line now to go back to it. It’s a lovely thought, but I don’t think it would probably be possible.”
In October 2024, the details that have been released are that Adele Lim will be directing and Anne Hathaway will return as Mia Thermopolis. Shooting the movie will take place sometime in 2025.
Hopefully more information will be released in the next few months, but for now fans are celebrating the win of receiving a third movie to add to this franchise.
