On Jan 22 2025, the public released images of an Australian cruise ship with workers in what seems like very controversial uniforms. Essentially, the workers were parading around the cruise ship in costumes that resembled clan attire. As of right now, the administration of the ship claims that the workers were dressed as “snow cones” as said by the New York Post. However, the passengers did not understand why that was happening, since the parade was Christmas themed, and there was no correlation with the theme and the costumes.
The uniforms were very similar to a cult from America in the 1800’s known as the Ku Klux Klan, also called the KKK. This group was known to tout white supremacy and create fear within the African American community sympathizers
Several news stations such as Daily Mail, New York Post, The Independent, and People Magazine reported that the passengers showed pure disgust over the look of the costumes. The New York Post said that many of the passengers were questioning why this was allowed in 2024, and what the purpose of it was.
“I can see why they saw the resemblance, and if it were true it would definitely be inappropriate. However, I think there is more to it than that,” said Arnav Surapaneni, a Junior at Briar Woods High School.
Ultimately, it came down to the fact that the KKK was founded in Tennessee 1865, and had little to no link to Australia. As a result of this information, people started to realize that these uniforms might have been a terrible coincidence. The Independent News reported that the cruise line insisted that they had no idea of the resemblance, and that they meant no harm.
