“We Didn’t Start the Fire”: A Review

We Didn’t Start the Fire: Over the years, people have debated whether the song is good or bad. In 1989, Billy Joel wrote one of the most unique and classic songs we still listen to today. It was released on September 27th as a single on October 17th in his album Storm Front. The song goes over all of the political, cultural, sporting, and groundbreaking events that occurred during his life from 1949 to 1989.

I would say, at times, that if the song is played too much, the music becomes a little annoying or repetitive. However, this doesn’t override the fact that the lyrical work Billy Joel wrote for this song is phenomenal. The blending of lyrics throughout the song is why the melody is one of the best ever.

In 1989, “We Didn’t Start the Fire” was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards and reached number one on the US Billboards Hot 100. Even though the music is subpar, and Billy Joel doesn’t even like it himself, the lyrics are definitely something to be proud of.
