A Partners for Safe Teen Driving meeting was held at Briar Woods for students taking Driver’s Education from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on October 8th. 

It is a requirement for students taking the Driver’s Education course to attend the Partners for Safe Teen Driving meeting in order to pass the course and get their learner’s permit. Students and their parents/guardians must attend one of the 30 meetings taking place at LCPS high schools. The next meeting at Briar Woods will be held on December 12th. Parents/guardians must bring a pen to complete paperwork, which records those who were present at the meeting. Doors lock at 7:05 p.m., and those who arrive late will not be allowed to attend. After completing the meeting, those present will receive a slip that shows that shows they attended the meeting. Students will then have to take the slip to their Drivers Education teachers, or show them a photo of it to make sure they receive credit for going. 

There is a schedule for the meetings on the Health & PE department section of the school website. The schedule lists dates for meetings that will take place at different LCPS schools.

The Partners for Safe Teen Driving program was created to help teens learn how to drive safely since there have been many car accidents involving teens over the years. The mission of the program is to educate parents on the skills and information students need to know to pass the Drivers Education course, in order to guide them through their first couple years of driving. “I think it’s a good program because it brings parents and students together to make the process of learning to drive a collaborative and fun experience,” said Ms. Straka, Health & PE teacher.
