Briar Woods High School is known for its dedicated team of staff and faculty who go the extra mile to create a positive learning and nurturing environment for students. With spring break now over, the focus shifts to how the hardworking staff at Briar Woods unwound and recharged before the final push to summer break.
The week before spring break is typically a hectic period filled with teaching, grading, and supporting students. Staff and faculty welcomed the break as an opportunity to rest and recharge for the final months of the school year.
Lorenzo Thrower, a school security officer, said he drove to Charleston, W.Va., to camp. From there, he went to Kentucky to look at college campuses with his daughter.
Whether they traveled, stayed local, or enjoyed time at home, Briar Woods faculty made the most of their break. Security officer Mayra Villafuerte traveled to Central America to spend time with her family.
The staff and faculty took the opportunity to unwind in various ways. Christopher Kohlasch, a marketing teacher, went to Charleston, S.C., with his son and a friend to play golf.
Diana Crittenden, an administrative assistant, traveled to Ohio to visit family and friends.
Nooshin Reimer, a special education teacher, visited her daughter at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and celebrated her daughter’s birthday. Reimer also went to North Myrtle Beach for five days and then to Chapel Hill, N.C., to visit her mother-in-law.
Traci Wilson, a teacher assistant, said she planned to “hang out and sleep like a teenage girl.” Wilson also made a road trip to visit her daughter at college.
Others, like Jason Uhry, a marketing teacher, decided to “hang out and keep it real.” Uhry explained he plans to take vacations during summer break rather than spring break.
Briar Woods staff and faculty’s spring break plans highlight the importance of taking time off to spend with family and friends or for themselves before summer break begins. Whether staying home or traveling, the time off allowed them to recharge and return ready to finish the 2024-25 school year strong.
