The California fires have become a serious issue happening more often and causing a lot of damage. These fires spread very quickly because of dry weather, high temperatures, and strong winds. Homes are being destroyed and they are forcing people to evacuate their homes. Many businesses are also being destroyed and people have to leave their homes. The fires also cause forests and wildlife to fall apart making it hard for nature to recover. Firefighters are working their hardest to control the fires using a lot of resources and teamwork.
Freshman Vanshika Duresvula says “Knowing that I used to live near the Palisades this is a very sad topic for me knowing that my friends have had to evacuate their homes knowing they will come back to nothing”.
Firefighters and emergency workers do their best to fight the fires using tools like satellite images and drones to track the flames. They work hard to put out the fires but sometimes the fires are too big to control. The cost of fighting these fires is very risky, causing many people to die or get severe burns, not only firefighters but also everyday people. Rebuilding afterward is very expensive, falling into billions of dollars. Firefighters are doing their best to make sure people come back to their homes without any damage.
The growing number of fires shows that we need to take care of our climate change seriously and manage our forests better. Hotter temperatures and longer droughts are linked to climate change which make it easier for fires to start and spread. By doing things like controlled fires and cleaning dead plants we can help reduce the risk of big fires. It’s clear that we need to take strong actions to protect people and nature from these fires in the future.
Freshman Allie Bowen says “Having family live in California is really scary, but knowing they are safe and taking precautions makes me worry a little less”.
Another important thing for communities is to be ready. People living where fires can happen need to have plans and know what to do if a fire ever starts. This means knowing how to leave safely, having emergency supplies and staying updated with local news. Teaching awareness can really help by being ready and working together, and hopefully we can lessen the damage these fires cause.
Freshman Laney Perry says “Having this sad event I think more people need to be more aware, people overreacting over something they knew was going to happen there were many precautions they could’ve taken yet some people took none’’.
