Award season is upon us! On Feb. 2, the 67th Grammy Awards aired on CBS at 8:00 est. Undoubtedly, this year’s Grammy awards will go down as being action-packed and exciting. With the disastrous fires raging in LA, this evening was an emotional love letter to the city, including an opening ceremony to honor the lives lost, acknowledging the vast destruction.
With special performances from artists like Kendrick Lamar, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappel Roan, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, and others, this year’s Grammys showcased so many artists of various genres. Artists like Doechii, Chappel Roan, and Charli XCX had a very special night, each winning their first awards after breakthrough years.
As with any award show, the outfits did not disappoint. Freshman Aadhya Kompalli says, “I think Olivia Rodrigo’s outfit was the best because I think Olivia looks really good in black and I like the design.” And freshman Anvi Gupta says, “Madison Beer’s was my favorite. I think the bodice of her dress was really well fitting for her.”
The most popular wins include Beyonce, being awarded album of the year for her country album “Cowboy Carter,” Chappel Roan winning best new artist, Kendrick Lamar with five Grammys for his hit song “Not Like Us,” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short N’ Sweet” for pop album of the year.
The past year of music has been clearly dominated by female artists, with only a few male artists being nominated and selected for various awards. The music industry in the past has been dominated by men, but with the growing movement of female empowerment and feminism, women have risen up. Making history at this year’s Grammy awards, Beyonce was the first black woman ever to win country album of the year, and also the most awarded artist in the entirety of the show’s existence. Doechii was the third woman to win rap album of the year, and Amy Allen was the first woman to win songwriter of the year. Women continue to make so many accomplishments and milestones in the music industry, setting an amazing example for aspiring artists, musicians, and songwriters.
This year’s Grammys certainly did not disappoint. With so many new artists coming into the scene in addition to the ones many know and love, this year was certainly an amazing year for all music lovers. Without a doubt, the music industry is ever changing, and viewers can’t wait to see what next year’s Grammys hold!
