On Dec. 29, former president Jimmy Carter passed away at the age of 100 years old, making him the longest-lived president in American history. Carter was the 39th president of the United States, and served from 1977 to 1981.
The funeral took place on Jan. 9, at which his family was in attendance. He is survived by his four children, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. His family and friends were joined by all five living former and current presidents. This made an interesting line up of former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George Bush, President Biden, and president-elect Donald Trump.
People in attendance at the funeral remembered Carter as a thoughtful and kind man of faith, and celebrated what he’d accomplished for the United States. While in office, he worked to solve international conflicts, make democracy stronger, advance human rights, and progress economic and social development.
In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize due to his efforts for peace between Egypt and Israel, as well as Iraq later on. May his legacy as a compassionate and peace-loving man live on and be remembered fondly.
