Jaime Rodriguez is a new teacher at Briar Woods this year. He originally is from Puerto Rico and recently moved to America. However, this isn’t Mr. Rodriguez’s first year teaching. He had taught for several years before coming to Briar Woods, but decided that he wanted a big change after teaching at another school.
He said “Since the first day I came here to teach it felt like family. I’m surrounded by good admin and great students”
Mr. Rodriguez really has a passion for teaching, being in charge of Spanish 2 and Fluent Speakers 4 classes this year. He has said that he really loves his job teaching new Spanish speakers and seeing them expand and learn brand new things. He always looks out for his students and puts them first in class. Whenever a student needs help, he will always be there to support them.
The main reason Mr. Rodriguez wanted to come to Briar Woods to teach is that he wanted students to have a better learning experience. He wants students to be excited to come in and learn every single day. So, he tries to make his classes as interesting and as fun as he can. One of the ways he makes his classes fun and interesting is that he plays music while everyone’s working. This really helps his students focus and be more productive because it can remind them to finish their work. He also creates a calm environment while he ensures that all of his students are finishing their work. His students have nothing but kind words towards him.
Laney Perry said “Mr. Rodriguez is probably the best teacher I’ve ever had, Spanish was never really a subject I was confident in but after having Mr. Rodriguez this year I’ve really become more confident even with speaking out loud in Spanish.”
Natalie Huppert said “Mr. Rodriguez really makes the class fun, his teaching style is really fun and creative and when just sitting down doing work he plays music so we can focus and I think that really helps me learn and understand the Spanish subject even more.”
In his free time he likes to play the drums and spend time with his family. He loves music and the culture of Puerto Rican music and dances. This is part of the reason he plays music in his class, as he wants his students to have the same love and passion for music the same way he does.
He will not only make you better at Spanish as a second language, Mr. Rodriguez could even make a student become fluent in this language. He will also always make his students feel appreciated and seen when they walk into his classroom. Mr. Rodriguez can be found usually in room L212 or L210.
