Early Wednesday morning, former President Donald Trump earned the 270 electoral votes necessary to be declared President. Trump previously served one term as President from 2016 to 2020 and is on track to serve his second term now from 2024 to 2028. He will be the 47th President this country has seen, as well as the oldest President to be inaugurated and the first elected president with a felony conviction. He is also the second President to serve two non-consecutive terms as President, the first being former President Grover Cleveland.
“Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you. And with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve,” said Trump while addressing the public after crossing the 270 electoral votes mark.
Trump stated that after his inauguration, it “will truly be the golden age of America” and that he and his supporters have “overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible.” He added that this campaign has been “the greatest political movement of all time” and that “there’s never been anything like this in this country.” He vowed that he is “going to help our country heal.”
This election was decided based on seven key battleground states of Georgia, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, for a total of 61 electoral votes. Harris failed to get the votes needed in those states, ultimately leading to her defeat in this election.
Serving as Trump’s Vice President will be JD Vance, a current Senator from Ohio. Vance is a Marine veteran, and graduated from The Ohio State University and Yale Law School. Vance is also a published author as well as an entrepreneur. Vance was also previously a Trump critic, but had a change of heart while running for the Senate two years ago.
After the turmoil the country experienced in the past decade, American citizens wait with bated breath to see how Trump will change the country, and if he truly will carry out all that he has promised.
