This past week the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a devastating attack on Al Jazirah state, specifically the village of Al-Sireha in the North African nation of Sudan, killing at least 124 people in that village alone.
A year and half into the war between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), the country was ravaged with starvation, displacement, and death. An estimated 25,000,000 people, more than half of the population, face starvation with 11,000,000 people being displaced. Although there have been attempts made at peace talks in Jeddah, the majority have fallen apart with the intensification of the war.
In a statements by Clemmentine Nkweta-Salami, the UN Humnitarian Coordinator in Sudan, she condemns the atrocities commited the RSF stating, “I am shocked and deeply appalled that human rights violations of the kind witnessed in Darfur last year – such as rape, targeted attacks, sexual violence, and mass killings – are being repeated in Al Jazirah state. These are atrocious crimes,”
