This years’ Multicultural Fair boasted a wide variety of different cultures from all around the globe and allowed students to better understand their fellow peers’ cultures.
There are many benefits to the school environment when it comes to hosting such fairs. One reason is that these types of events help students gain more cultural awareness. Impactly.com explains the importance of cultural awareness, stating “In today’s modern era, cultural awareness is gaining much importance. By being culturally aware, we emphasize diversity in different meaningful and beautiful ways. Cultural awareness is all about recognizing and understanding that we all have various values formed by our diverse cultural backgrounds. Cultural awareness makes it easy to explore the world.”
The fair also allowed students at Briar Woods to try things they would have otherwise not been able to.
“I got to try foods from all around the world and it gave me an experience of food from cultures I have never tried before,” says an anonymous 9th grader. Many students do not get much exposure to different cuisines, and this experience allowed them to explore such things. The Multicultural fair was also an interesting view into other cultures other than the food.
Melania, a freshman, says “It was a good diverse environment, and it was interesting seeing what people had to offer and what kind of food they provided for people to try”. Seeing different cultures being represented can inspire others to participate in the fair and share their own traditions in the next one.
The Multicultural fair was a new experience for many and allowed them to learn more about the cultures of their peers. The event has allowed many countries to be represented in unique ways and allowed students to share their cultures. Diversity is a key factor in fostering a comfortable environment for all.
