The Falcons lost to an excellent Riverside team in the regional finals.

As the top seeds in the region 5D, this game looked like a preview for the state finals. It looked good for Briar to start the game, jumping out to a two goal lead early in the first. Briar took command for most of the quarter, but that quickly faded away. With a minute left in the quarter, the Rams turned the gears and scored two quick goals to take the lead 3-2 after one. Both teams seemed to keep the pace going in the second. Riverside got an early goal to go up two. Briar quickly cut it back to one before a defensive battle took over the quarter. Riverside captured the final goal of the quarter to increase their lead by two again by the second half.

The switch turned off for the Falcons at halftime. The Rams scored two more goals to go up 7-3 in the mid third. Briar only managed to cook up one goal in the quarter as the game looked to be slipping away. 9-4 was the score at the end of the third. Riverside shut the door on Briar’s chances of coming back as they scored three unanswered goals to start the fourth putting them up 12-4. The Falcons mustered two more goals before allowing one more goal to Riverside, they [Falcons] ended up losing 13-6.

Speaking to one fan, he said, “ Those Riverside kids are something else; they are a really good team and they showed us why they were the one seed. I’m not worried about this loss as this just boosts our Falcons even more to win the state.” Another fan added, “We will be back to get our revenge. They played well today but when we meet them next time it will be a different story. Our guys have tons of motivation, and I am excited to see a potential rematch in the state finals.”

Though the Falcons lost regionals, they look to the state semifinals where they will take on the Freeman Mavericks on June 7th, 2022!
