The Falcons take care of business with a commanding win against Woodgrove.

Coming into this game, the Falcons were short-handed with two key offensive weapons out with injury (Ben Pearsall and Sam Guzman). The injury bug didn’t affect this team as they came out the gate with a 4-0 lead ending the first quarter. The onslaught continued into the second quarter as Falcons piled on four more goals to make it 8-0 with 2 minutes left in the second quarter. The Wolverines tried to make something out of this half and managed to stop bleeding for now and finish out the half down 8-1.

The Falcons cooled off to start the third as only two goals were scored in the first seven minutes of the quarter. Woodgrove looked to begin gaining momentum but couldn’t find any offense with the stifling Falcons defense. Briar poured it on in the late third, killing Woodgrove’s hope of making a comeback. By the end of the third, it was wraps as Briar led 11-3 with only one quarter remaining. The hot streak continued in the fourth as both teams found their offenses. It was a scoring frenzy, but Woodgrove couldn’t muster enough to return. The Falcons tacked on five more goals and put the wolverines to sleep, ending the game 14-6. The offensive player of the match goes to Freshman Tyler Yoder with his significant part in stepping up for the injured players and a fantastic all-around game. The defensive player of the game goes to Senior Scotty Lufkin with his exceptional goalie skills.

Speaking to one parent, he said, “This team is amazing to watch; everyone knows their role and what to do, which is why this team is so special. I really could see them making a deep playoff push over the next couple of weeks.” Another parent added, “This team has a really good depth which is a key contributor to a deep playoff run. Even if our star players get hurt, we have freshmen looking like seniors. I’m really looking forward to watching other teams’ reactions when they realize just how good each and every one of these players is.”

The Falcons look to keep their winning streak as they play Mountain View Wildcats on May 23rd in the game for regionals!
